Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács's FaZe exacted revenge on Cloud9 at StarSeries, after which we talked to the Slovakian about facing the North Americans, the Major and time off.
FaZe made quick work out of Tarik "tarik" Celik and co. today, winning Cache 16-1 before closing out the series with a 16-8 on Inferno. With this win, the European side went up 2-0 at the tournament and are now only one win away from the playoffs.
In a short post-match interview, Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács revealed details about the time following the Major and their Cache.
After the Major finished, there was that small break and a lot of teams were busy with roster shuffles, qualifiers starting. You didn't have any of that, so since the Major finished, what did you do as a team?
Since we didn't really have a winter break before the Major, we were playing individually the whole time, we were always practicing and we didn't have any time to take off. So we decided that, after the Major, we will have a break, at least 10 days long. That was actually the best decision we ever made, because after the lost final it was needed.
We didn't do anything special, we started to practice I think a week before StarLadder, we started fixing the mistakes we made during the final. So all we did was talk about the Major final, the game, the mistakes we made... We are trying to fix them even now at StarLadder, we are practicing every day, we are trying to get back into shape and get even better than we were.
How do you feel as a team now? Finishing the year it was year it was you and SK battling for the number one spot, but now, with a few a tournaments in the year, Cloud9 won the Major and finished second at cs_summit. So how do you feel coming here, would you say that you are favorites?
It's hard to say if we are favorites, I mean, I have no idea if other teams are practicing more than us, or if they had the same amount of time. We will see in the playoffs, if we qualify. I mean, SK is SK, they are a strong team, and we want to finally beat them in a BO3. That's our goal, but it's hard to say if we are in the best shape after one week of practice following the break. We have to see, but we will do our best.
After you beat SK here, you drew Cloud9, so the rematch of the Major final. First of all, getting them, was it a bit exciting, having the chance to get revenge?
Of course, we wanted to get revenge because of the final, I don't feel like we lost it to them completely. Of course, they played well, and in overtime, in the last map, they played much better than us. But until the overtime it was 15-11, so we were supposed to win the final, but somehow we made so many mistakes that it cost us the final. It's hard to say if they were completely better or if we made huge mistakes that lost us the final.
We wanted to win this game and we knew that if we played them with our 100% confidence, we would crush them on our maps. Because we knew that they would pick Inferno, and Inferno is still sloppy for us, we are trying to figure out the roles completely. I wouldn't say it is working 100% yet, we are still doing the same mistakes sometimes. But we knew that if we picked Cache we would crush them, we knew how they play and what they do. So we were ready for Cache and the other maps were up to them and how they vetoed. I'm happy we got the revenge, it's sweet.
As you mentioned, you had a great performance on Cache here, but it's not a map you play that much. Is it more about other people banning it against you, would you like to play it more, if it's available?
I think it differs from opponent to opponent, because not many teams are playing Cache and the teams that are playing it they are either leaving it as a third map or leaving us to pick it. So when we are confident in Cache, we pick it and I think it happened in the final of ELEAGUE Premier against Astralis, I'm not sure who picked it there though. We are pretty confident on Cache even though we didn't have that much practice on it. Now, personally I think it's our top2, top3 map, I practice it a lot. I think Cache is one of our best maps.
